The Liberty Dollar. Is it Illegal?

October 25, 2006

The Liberty dollar is a private currency that has been in circulation in the United States since 1998. It was created by NORFED in an attempt to provide a competing currency to the U.S. Dollar. The silver and gold pieces are made of either .9999 pure silver or gold respectively. The paper certificates can be traded in for silver or gold that is currently being stored in a warehouse in Idaho. The popularity of the Liberty Dollar has been growing in many states across the nation. This increase in interest seems to represent a desire to change back to a currency that is actually backed by something. The metal-based system is meant to be a hedge against inflation so your money does not loose its value unlike our current fiat system.

The U.S. Mint has recently declared that Liberty Dollars are illegal. In a public statement they said “The United States Mint is the only entity that can produce coins”, and that it “is a crime” to spend the Liberty Dollar. The first statement is not entirely false. The U.S. Mint is the lone coin creator of the United States, but the Liberty Dollar never claimed to be a coin. In fact, they consistently try to distance themselves from the Federal Reserve Notes. The Liberty Dollar is actually backed by something tangible. The Federal Reserve note is barely worth the paper it is printed on. The government continues to have more and more money printed and the notes continue to loose value. With every dollar they print, the amount

Three Step Proposal to Solve the ‘Immigration Problem’

October 23, 2006

Immigration has recently become a huge problem. Mexican immigrants are coming into this country and taking the jobs of Americans and living off of our welfare state!!!! Why should we as Americans have to pay to keep those damn illegals alive? Those are the arguments I always here when people are promoting the crack down on illegal immigration. There are so many things wrong with those statements. In order to show whats wrong with these arguments I have derived my own three step plan for fixing the ‘immigration problem.’

Step 1: End All Socialist Programs, Such as Welfare

I do not want to involuntarily pay to take care of anyone. Whether they are immigrants or native citizens I do not care. Voluntary charities can give money to whoever they want. I can give my money to who ever I want. However, the government has no right to take my money and give to to who they deem needs it. That is Socialism. Are we not supposed to live in a Capitalistic Society?

Step 2: End the Minimum Wage

If you end the minimum wage it would not be as easy for illegal immigrants to undercut the American workers. With the minimum wage gone, the American workers would be able to work for a lower amount

Libertarian Defined

October 9, 2006

The easiest way to explain what defines a Libertarian is by asking two simple questions.

Question 1:
Is it ever reasonable to initiate force against another human being?

If you answered yes to this question then go to hell. The only time it is acceptable to use force against someone is in self-defense situations. This is why Libertarians believe in removing gun restrictions. You have a right to defend yourself and your property. If you initiate violence however, you deserve to be punished.

Question 2:
Is it ever right to provide goods or services at the barrel of a gun?

This question may be a little tricky to some, so I will provide an example. Lets say that I believe that homeless people deserve money because they are victims of our system. Is it all right if I come to your house with five of my friends and rob you at gun point to provide for my cause? Of course not. No one in their right mind (except maybe a filthy socialist) would ever agree with that.

“So what exactly is your point?”, you may be asking. Well here it is. The government of the united states of America is doing this everyday on a much larger scale. They steal money from you and I and give it to programs like the FDA, TSA, Social Welfare, and Social Security. Now I know what you are thinking, “The government doesn’t come after our money with guns.” Well, my friend, you are dead wrong. Try not paying your federal income tax or your property taxes and see what happens. The government absolutely will come to your house ready to take you to jail at gun point. Now I don’t know about you but I do not want to go to jail, but, if you fight back your dead.

This is why libertarians believe in the free-market. Any service that the government supplies can be provided voluntarily by the free-market. The FDA, for example, could easily be replaced by a private organization. Look at consumer reports and J.D. Power and Associates. They provide a similar service as the FDA but for different products. These organizations are ran by private individuals and they seem to be doing just fine. Oh, as for the Drug part of the acronym, if we ended the war on drugs there would be no need for drug regulation either.

If you answered no to both of the questions above then you are a libertarian at heart, whether you know it or not. Now all you have to do is extend those principles to all aspects of life and realize how much better this country could be.
